While I was at school I started a burglar alarm business, it didn’t do particularly well but we sold a few alarms. My Dad was instrumental in getting me interested in self employment. He’s long since retired but we still have some great conversations about business, SME’s and franchising. I’ve learnt so much from him and the numerous entrepreneurs I’ve worked with designing franchise systems in the UK.

Now in my 50’s I’ve started, sold, packed in, lost money, made money and basically been involved in quite a lot of businesses. Generally speaking I’ve earned an above average income and done quite well by not working for someone else all the time.
